My personal food photography journey started slightly earlier than my love for portrait and landscape photography. We all are at different stages of our food photography journey and we’ve all had amazing advice from people who’ve walked the walk before us.
What I love the most about food photography lifestyle is how generous the creative’s are with their support for one another’s journey.
In this article you will get to learn some of the most important tips about how to improve your food photography and make it rank to the top charts!
Tips
LIGHTING
Whether it is food photography, landscape photography or portrait or whatever in the whole wide world of photography. The management of perfect Lighting is the key factor to a flawless frame. To do that try different postures while taking a photo so that you can compare and understand the rules of lighting.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
Don’t make your food folio too much complicated. Take out things on the table that are distracting and pair out just one plate of food. The less you put on the plate, and the less complicated it is, the easier it is to carry out good food photography.
VARY YOUR CAMERA ANGLE
There are only a few camera angles in food photography that you see again and again, but you need to make the choice, for a conscious decision. So that the placing of your camera will affect the type of story you’re trying to tell.
Some dishes look great when it is from right in front of the food and others are best suited when the you are looking down from directly above the table.
GO WITH A NEUTRAL BACKGROUND
Keeping the previous tips in mind, a good starting place is a neutral background to build on. It can be plain or even textured, but when you start neutral you can create many different looks with a few simple changes.
Use the food and layers to introduce color, shapes, lines and more texture. The background is not intended to be the main focus but is used to add interest and enhance your final image.
Use Props
Textures and patterns within a food describe its flavors. Using different props as reflector, diffuser, soft box, etc you can highlight those textures and patterns with ease.

It is getting used for various purposes like food blogs, advertisements, etc. Therefore, it is high in demand. So, don’t wait just take out your camera aim at the food, hold the shutter and click!
